Peter Nicol vs. David Palmer

Robert Edwards talks about the junior programme and how well it has helped the young people on the island. He introduces two slightly older players for a match. Mel Caines - a local business owner, and Sam Stevens - journalist for the Royal Gazette. Whilst they warm up Edwards talks about the difference of playing on an all-glass court. He also talks about Patrick Foster from the BSRA about the aim of growing the junior programme. The exhibition match then begins between Mel and Sam. Sam the Journalist wins 11-8.

Edwards introduces the two players for the main event tonight - Peter Nicol and David Palmer. This is the rematch of the Gold medal match at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne this year. Edwards talks about the fact that both players have won everything - and with real style with panache. They also always are genuine and down to earth. Edwards talks about them playing 'with respect'. Both players, he says, deserve the right to be mentioned amongst the top players in history.

Our Summary
A commanding display by Nicol, with Palmer only really getting into the match in the third game. Nicol's control of the tee and great disguise put Palmer under a lot of pressure, and Nicol really looks to be in great form. Both players played a clean match with the crowd in awe at their skills on many occasions. Nicol now plays Gaultier in the semi-finals.
